GROUP EXPOSES PLOT BY CONTRACTORS TO TRUNCATE NDDC FORENSIC AUDIT

The Niger Delta Justice and Peace Forum (NDJPF) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by contractors to truncate the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Forum in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday said they were in possession of credible intelligence by a group of NDDC contractors and other vested interests to make sure the forensic audit of the Commission does not see the light of the day.

The Statement signed by the Coordinator, Barrister George Ovbiagele and Secretary Comrade Ambrose Komie listed “a prominent member of the National Assembly from Delta State and a national officer of a leading political party” as being part of the plot.

According to the statement, “we are aware of series of meetings in Abuja by a clique of contractors who had obtained phantom and fraudulent contracts, got fully paid but have not even identified the site of the proposed projects. These are the people who have sworn that the forensic audit must be stopped.

“Information at our disposal has it that with part of their loot from the NDDC these people have mobilized some misguided youths to stage some protests in Port-Harcourt and Abuja to thwart the planned audit.

“They have also planned to sponsor radio and television talk shows to denigrate the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio for carrying out the mandate which President Buhari gave him. They are the ones calling for his sack for daring to probe their loot. They don’t want the Interim Management Committee to oversee the forensic audit process because they will be exposed.

“These are the people who are against the development of the Niger Delta region. They don’t want NDDC to be under any supervision so that it will be business as usual and they will continue to fraudulently enrich themselves at the expense of the Niger Delta people.

“The masses of the Niger Delta support the Honourable Minister and the President in bringing sanity to NDDC. They should not be distracted by the shenanigans of these people whose hands are soaked in the blood of Niger Delta people who fought for the emancipation of the region,” the statement said.
